Employer-Specific Work Permit
An employer-specific work permit restricts you to a specific employer, location, and duration.
Before applying for an employer-specific work permit, your employer must provide:

Open Work Permit
An open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada, except for employers:​
Bringing Your Family
Your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children may be able to work, study, or live with you while you work in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria for All Applicants
When applying for a work permit in Canada, specific requirements must be met depending on your location.

Demonstrate to an officer that you will leave Canada once your work permit expires.

Provide proof of sufficient funds to support yourself and your family during your stay and to facilitate your return home.

Adhere to Canadian laws and have no criminal record; a police clearance certificate may be required.

Ensure you pose no threat to Canada’s security.

Be in good health, potentially requiring a medical exam.

Avoid employment with employers deemed ineligible or non-compliant.

Refrain from working for employers involved in striptease, erotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages.

Submit any additional documents requested by the officer to validate your eligibility for entry into Canada.
