Visiting Canada
Essential Information for Temporary Residents
Who is a Visitor?
A visitor is anyone legally entering Canada for a temporary purpose, such as tourism, business, or study, who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a minister’s permit.

Visa Requirements Most visitors need a visa unless exempted. The visa application involves a two-step process:
-
Submit Application: Apply at the Canadian visa office in your region, possibly attending an interview to verify your visit's purpose, your intent to leave Canada on time, and your admissibility.
-
Port of Entry (POE): Upon arrival, an immigration officer will ensure your admissibility to Canada.

Visa Types
-
Single Entry Visa: Valid for up to six months before travel.
-
Multiple Entry Visa: Valid for up to five years or until one month before your passport/re-entry visa expires. Typically allows a six-month stay per visit.

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV): A TRV is an official document placed in your passport, indicating you meet the requirements for temporary residence in Canada. You must obtain a TRV before traveling.
